CHIROPRACTIC

A health profession concerned with the diagnosis, treatment and prevention of mechanical disorders of the musculoskeletal system, and the effects of these disorders on the function of the nervous system and general health. There is an emphasis on manual treatments including spinal adjustment and other joint and soft-tissue manipulation.

What do Chiropractors Treat?
Research has indicated that Chiropractors treat several common musculoskeletal conditions such as;

• Headaches/ Migraines      • Neck pain      • Back Pain
• Should Injuries       • Sciatica      • Arthritis      • Joint dysfunction
• Sports Injuries
• Neuropathies        • Numbness and tingling

Truth is Chiropractors do not only treat pain. Pain is a symptom, it is your body’s way of telling you that something is wrong. The compensation pattern or pathology has been occurring for such a long period of time that now your brain is telling you, you need help. Chiropractors are trained in finding injury and compensation before it happens, treating it and preventing it.

Chiropractors check your spine, joints, and muscles for restrictions, adhesions, and compensation, treating them and preventing injury. They use several techniques to create new motor patterns in your body changing your posture so you stand up tall, function more efficiently and feel better.

Who should see a Chiropractor?
EVERYONE!

New Born: Birth is a traumatic process for both Baby and Mom. Chiropractors work with Mom’s both pre and post-natal for issue such as back pain, swelling, balance, and exercise. Babies face a lot of trauma through pregnancy and delivery such as in utero constraints, malposition, and forces during delivery and assisted delivery devises
(forceps, vacuum and c-section) This can cause misalignment of the hips, spine, and cranial bones. Baby’s spines also elongate 50% in the first six months of life and the curvatures of the spine develop as they start to lift their heads and crawl. Making sure their spines are aligned is crucial for normal spinal development. Chiropractic is a safe, gentle way to evaluate and treat common developmental issues such as congenital torticollis and leg length discrepancy. There is also evidence to support the decrease rates of asthma, and otitis media (ear infections).

Children: As children continue to develop they increase their proprioceptors; they learn to crawl, walk, run, and develop fine motor skills like writing. As these motor neural patterns develop it is important to keep the brain, nervous system and body connected. By checking and treating joint restrictions in the spine, proper motor patterns can be developed decreasing compensation patterns and future injury.

Adults: Adults tend to have chronic repetitive jobs. They sit at a computer or do the same movements everyday for long periods of time. The body compensates for these repetitive actions causing muscles and ligaments to change positions; shoulders roll forward, the neck tilts forward, and a rounding of the middle spine starts to appear. Over time these changes in posture cause change in the function of the lungs, heart, and overall health. Chiropractors help identify these postural compensation patterns and treat the tight muscles and joint restrictions, strengthen the weak muscles and allow you to live healthier, happier lives!

Older Adults: Our society is aging. As people get older they lose flexibility, stability, and eventually independence. Chiropractic can help you maintain independence by keeping the brain connected to the body, therefore increasing balance and decreasing the risk of falls. Keeping your joints moving, your nervous system functions and muscles firing. We do this by working on your balance, muscle mass and joint fixations. These things are required to prevent falls, fractures, and keep you living longer.

What causes muscles to "Shut off"?
Repetitive use of the same muscle causes neurogenic inflammation and muscle breakdown.

Physical trauma such as a fall or whip lash causes inflammation decrease neural output.

Arthritis, causes chronic inflammation in the joints and muscles attaching to the joints. This again decreases neural input to the muscles.

Without proper stretching and repair, muscles put down scar tissue and calcium. This blocks the motor nerve  innervating the muscle causing weakness and compensation. There is no pain during this process, the pain comes with the compensation and unequal distribution of forces.

How does injury happen?
Muscle compensation is what causes injury happens.
Proper technique and mechanics are vital when it comes to training. In order to maintain proper technique equal force must be produced from both sides of the body, therefore muscles need to be equally strong.

How do you Reactivate a Muscle?
Reactivation can be done through motor never stimulation from technique such as;
Acupuncture
Myofascial Release
Adjustments
Isolated activation exercises
Nutrition to hep maintain and build proper fascial patterning

A functional assessment is designed to find the weak muscle, so it can be treated and proper exercises can be prescribed.

We analyzes posture, gait, muscular compensation, orthopaedic tests, radiographic imaging and joint dysfunction to effectively diagnose each individual.

Treating the cause of the pain allows your body to do what it is best at, heal. Your body is a living organism it has the potential to heal itself. Chiropractors help this healing process by working on damaged tissue, and adjusting the spine to allow your brain to connect to your body giving you, your full potential.
