Experience the Soothing Benefits of Our General Swedish Massage at Bodylab Recovery Science

General Swedish massage is performed when the patient wants to relax. There are two main aspects of the nervous system, sympathetic and parasympathetic. The sympathetic nervous system is termed the ‘fight or flight’ response and causes the release of certain hormones. It is these hormones that will result in increased blood pressure, constriction of the blood vessels, and a feeling of anxiety or stress.
This type of massage focuses on enhancing the parasympathetic nervous system. This system is termed the ‘rest and digest’ response and also results in hormone release. These hormones can decrease blood pressure, can dilate blood vessels, and cause a sense of euphoria and relaxation.
What to expect:
This type of massage focuses on long soothing massage strokes. It can appear often rhythmical allowing the patient to enter a deep state of relaxation. This can include a full body massage consisting of the back, the back of the legs, the front of the legs, the arms, the shoulders and neck, or any combination of those areas. Some deeper muscle work may be performed on the patient’s request and if noted necessary from the doctor. We will always ensure that the patient is comfortable with the pressure used to promote the relaxation effect
